In a significant milestone for the SpicE project, our consortium members have been hard at work over the past months developing a cutting-edge Competence Framework and specialized profiles tailored specifically for educators involved in the implementation of STEAM practices within Inclusive Primary Education settings.

A Community-Driven Approach

At the heart of our methodology lies a commitment to the core principle of the SpicE project: “from the community and for the community.” We have embraced a multifaceted research approach, engaging our community members and consortium partners to ensure that our efforts are closely aligned with the needs and aspirations of our educational community.

The Competence Framework: A Comprehensive Guide

The Competence Framework represents a significant achievement, building upon the foundation of the STEAM Educators’ Competence Framework, an outcome of the Erasmus+ project STEAMonedu. Additionally, it draws upon the insights gleaned from our earlier deliverable, the Gap Analysis.

This framework serves as a comprehensive guide, detailing the essential skills and knowledge that primary educators should possess to thrive in an Inclusive STEAM educational environment. It not only empowers educators to evaluate their own proficiency through self-assessment but also offers invaluable guidance and assessment criteria for all stakeholders involved in formulating and assessing learning outcomes within pre-service and in-service training programs for primary educators.

Specialized Profiles for Diverse Roles

In addition to the Competence Framework, our consortium is pleased to introduce four distinct profiles that have been meticulously crafted. These profiles are designed to clarify the unique responsibilities associated with various educator roles within an Inclusive STEAM primary school context:

1. Inclusive STEAM Primary School Teacher
2. STEAM Special Educational Needs Primary School Teacher
3. Inclusive STEAM Learning Support Teacher
4. Inclusive STEAM Pedagogy Expert

These profiles provide insights into potential collaborative dynamics and instructional strategies. Moreover, they align with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) levels and propose novel codes for inclusion in the ESCO (European Skills, Competences, Qualifications, and Occupations) taxonomy.

Contributing to the Field’s Body of Knowledge

Our Competence Framework and profiles represent a significant contribution to the field’s body of knowledge and address existing research gaps. The Competence Framework, in particular, will form the cornerstone of our project’s subsequent work packages. It will provide the essential guidance and structural foundation necessary for the design and implementation of effective training initiatives aimed at enhancing the competence and expertise of Inclusive STEAM Primary Educators.
