Transforming STEM in Africa Event
The African Union, in collaboration with UNESCO and various partners, is hosting a Continental Conference on STEM under the theme: “Transforming Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in Africa.” This event aligns with the AU Year of Education and will take place from November 26-28, 2024, at the African Union’s Convention Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The conference will feature a STEM Experience Hub—a vibrant interactive space for educators, students, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to engage with innovative STEM concepts, gain hands-on skills, and foster collaborations. High-level plenary sessions will spark transformative dialogue on STEM, alongside four focused thematic tracks that include:
- Strengthening the Foundations of STEM Education
- Advancing Gender Equality and Inclusion in and through STEM
- Fostering STEM Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Excellence
- Promoting STEM Financing, Diplomacy, and Partnerships
Key participants will represent a wide array of stakeholders:
- Government Structures on STEM: Policymakers and officials shaping education strategies and resources.
- Private Sector: Industries investing in STEM education and creating career pathways.
- Academic Institutions: Universities and research centers advancing STEM curriculum and teacher training.
- STEM Education Ecosystems: Teachers, students, and youth promoting transformative educational practices.
- STEM Professionals and Innovators: African experts and entrepreneurs sharing expertise and innovation.
- Development Partners and Philanthropic Organizations: Offering financial and technical support to boost STEM initiatives across Africa.
